Fundraising - 2020 - Speen Helping Hospices (SHH) Fundraising in Chiltern Villages

SHH - Speen Helping Hospices and 2020 - From March to December

SHH had planned a series of events for fundraising in 2020 including a Pamper Evening, Spring Lunch at the Horse Trust in Speen, a Comedy Night and a Car Boot Sale.

Fortunately the Pamper Evening went ahead in March before lockdown began.

___ We were approached by people asking if we were planning to fundraise for the hospices by making and selling face masks. We replied that we would be very happy to do this if there was a reasonable demand. There certainly was! By early July we had sold 200 masks and raised £1,000. Up to November 2020 the amount is over £5,000 by the end of 2020.

On the second Bank Holiday Monday in May a "Speen Yard Sale" took place. Residents set up stalls outside their homes, so other residents could buy items that were no longer required. A lot of the donations from the sales were given to Speen Helping Hospices.

In May, local artist Joanna Brownridge donated one of her paintings “Mist” - an original framed 90cm x 65cm. Local photographer and Jazz Musician Martin Hart produced prints that Joanna signed and tickets were sold. The second prize was a signed and framed print of the original.

On Saturday 11th July the draw took place and this event raised over £3,000. More Here at "Mist" by Joanna Brownridge Picture Draw Saturday 11th July 2020

On the 23rd August The Martin Hart Quartet played for a couple of hours at a socially distanced event at the Great Hampden Cricket Ground.

Over £1,250 was raised at Jazz in The Park More Here at Jazz in The Park 2020

As we could not hold our annual Christmas Market in the Chapel Hall as usual this year, we had all the plans in place to have a socially distanced open air continental style Christmas Market for the 14th November in marquees at Speen Playing Fields. Due to lockdown 2, this event had to be cancelled.

Not to be outdone we launched an online shop and since its inception in early November a number of local businesses have been added, who are all donating 10% of their sales through the website to the hospices.

Much of the content of the products for sale on the Speen Helping Hospices website in 2020 has been made by two members of SHH committee - Ann James and Maureen Laing with a little help from their quilt group "Loose Threads"

All the beautiful fabric is donated and the time to make items for sale is given free. This not only means that all items are of exceptional value, but that all proceeds go to the hospice charity funds.

Contributions also from Lisa Suter, Mel Foster, Sue Davis, Sally Nash, Jill Rogerson and Judy Keen

A couple of pop up stalls were arranged including one on the 19th December the day of the The Sassy Santas fun run and The Christmas Hamper draw __

Katherine Matthews, Angela Forkgen, Lesley Thorn-Davis, Debbie O’Brien, Debbie Tilt, Alison Kent, Caroline Cranley, Clare Hobbs and a few others aka The Sassy Santas! have organised their version of a Santa Fun Run from 10am in a route around Speen. £1,653.10 was made from this event More Here

On your behalf we are now able to donate £4,500 to each of the four Hospices, leaving a cushion to cover our overheads (e.g insurance).

This is our best year ever! Thank you all for your support.
